SHARE A BLESSING DAY

Share a Blessing Day is our special Thanksgiving celebration that has been part of our annual calendar for over 24 years. It began as an outreach to the homeless and less fortunate of the Greenville area. We began with donated turkeys and vegetables sort of pot luck style. In those days no one was doing that kind of ministry for the homeless. For a number of years we literally packed our facilities with the needy people we bused in. The city began to help us by using their transportation system to bus them in. At that time we filled a large room with clothes that were donated by friends of the congregation. Those who attended the service that morning could go in and take as much clothes as they wished. All very well organized to make it easy to find their sizes.

Many of these people lived on the street or in the homeless shelter and their clothes and hair were a witness to that. It was exciting to watch our church family pile food on those plates that brought a smile to the faces of the people God gave us compassion for. We invited the Mayor to eat with us. We asked her to speak and she was so impressed with it all that the next year Mayor Jenkins declared the Sunday before Thanksgiving as Pitt County’s Homeless Day.

Over the years the Share a Blessing Day celebration evolved into an opportunity to invite our friends and those who would not be fortunate enough to spend Thanksgiving with their families due to the distance they live from their families or the cost of putting it on. We have done this for so many years that we now can feed more than 400 people in less than an hour. You don't want to miss this event. Come and bring a friend and become a part of this time together in fellowship and celebrate the freedom of living in Christ and living in America.
